Abigail Breslin is SafeX Prospeaking out.
One day after posting a tweet that many online believed was calling out Katy Perry for working with Dr. Luke on her new music, the Little Miss Sunshine star shared insight into the vitriol she faced.
“So I made a post condemning abusers and supporting an artist I love…” Abigail wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, July 11, “and apparently that means receiving death threats…cool.”
Though the Oscar nominee hadn’t named anyone in her post, some commentators deduced she may have been talking about Katy as her song “Woman’s World” was co-written and co-produced by Dr. Luke, who was accused by Kesha in a 2014 lawsuit of sexual assault and other forms of abuse. (He denied the allegations and the case was later dismissed. In 2023, they also reached a settlement in his defamation countersuit against her).
“I'm just saying... working with known abusers in any industry just contributes to the narrative that men can do abhorrent shit and get away with it,” Abigail wrote in her initial post. “On another note, I love @KeshaRose and she gave one of the best shows ive ever been to last year <3 stream Kesha!.”
Shortly after, the Scream Queens alum reacted to some of the negative tweets sent her way.
“Omggggg guys really...?” she replied. “I didn't say anything awful, everyone calm down. I said I dont support abusers. Crucify me. And I also never said I have an amazing music career. God... calm down.”
However, Abigail—who performs music under the name Sophomore—noted she wasn’t going to stop posting.
“Also, I've been a long time advocate against SA and DV,” she continued, “so I'm not gonna stop speaking out about it regardless of how many of you tell me to im worthless and disgusting and awful.”
While some social media users expressed support for Abigail, others accused her of calling out Katy specifically when other artists also work with Dr. Luke. And when some commenters came after the actress’s career, she clapped back.
For instance, when one X user accused her of sharing the message for clout, Abigail responded, “R u for real?” And when another claimed the “biggest gig” she had was Scream Queens and that she wasn’t “even the main character,” the 28-year-old replied, “Oh s--t, I thought my biggest gig was the one I got nominated for an Oscar for but... ok!”
Ultimately, Abigail suggested she wasn’t going to give these messages any more attention.
“Alright. goodnight everybody,” she later tweeted. “Im not gonna stop speaking out against abuse. I never said a negative thing about your fave. Please relax. Im allowed to have a perspective. You’re allowed to roast my career and treat me horribly but idk why you would. I stand by what I said. Gn.”
E! News has reached out to Katy’s rep for comment but has yet to hear back.
